Grays Harbor County Commissioners eyeing levy shift again this year

Almost a year ago, Cosmopolis Mayor Vickie Raines said during a public hearing on the matter, “As commissioners you may not fully understand this, but it is based on the fact that the county road district is much smaller than the entire county district. Owners of real property in incorporated cities are now being forced to pay over $400,000 in additional taxes for absolutely no increase, change or improvement in service levels.” Under the direction of commissioners Herb Welch, Terry Willis, and Mike Wilson the county went on to shift $750,000 of it’s road fund to balance its budget last year.
It’s a long story, and the Montesano Vidette has a full article available to subscribers of their website, or check next week’s edition with an update from the county. At this point, everything is still up in the air on what the commissioners want to do and a solid plan to identify revenue increases or cuts has not yet emerged.
