On Saturday September 7th at about 6:52 pm, WSP and Grays Harbor Sheriff Deputies responded to a two vehicle head-on collision with injuries on SR 109 near mile post 10. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 2007 gray colored Ford Escape had been traveling southbound and crossed over the centerline striking a 2012 gray colored Toyota Scion that had been traveling north bound. Both vehicles had two occupants. Deputies also learned that the driver of the Ford Escape was a 63 year old male from Gig Harbor. This subject apparently made statements to witnesses that he wanted to kill himself and intentionally crossed over the center line striking the other vehicle. Once interviewed by a deputy, the man made the same statement, claiming voices in his head told him to do this.
WSP responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. All occupants had been transported to various hospitals for treatment however none of the injuries were life threatening. Due to the fact that this was an intentional act (and not a accident/collision by definition) the driver of the Ford Escape was arrested and booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail for assault 2nd degree for intentionally trying to harm the two occupants in the Toyota Scion, in addition to his own passenger. Investigators are obviously looking into the mental status of the 63 year old man.
