Thieves used cars to steal copper wiring near Aberdeen settling ponds

ABERDEEN, Wash. – Police are investigating a large metal theft after two vehicles were being used to rip copper wiring from equipment behind a gated area near the Westport Highway.
Police Captain John Green tells us around 5:30 Wednesday morning they were advised of subjects coming out of the settling pond area near the Bishop Athletic Complex on the South side of Aberdeen.
Officers located two unoccupied vehicles inside the gated area near the ponds, they also found that the vehicles had apparently been being used to pull copper wiring from the equipment installed on the settling ponds.
Green said the cost to repair the damage is expected to be in the ten of thousands of dollars, the equipment belongs to the COSMO Paper Company located in Cosmopolis, WA. The vehicles have been seized as evidence. The investigation is continuing.
