MASON COUNTY, Wash. – Mason County rescue crews saved a dog from a 100′ cliff on Harstine Island over the weekend. Detective Will Adam tells us around 4:50 Saturday afternoon they received a 911 call about the gray Collie that had fallen down a cliff while chasing an animal. The 70 lbs. dog was stuck on a ledge 30 feet from the top, but the ledge was almost 100 feet from the bottom. The cliff was located on the north side of Harstine Island, near the 700 block of E. Promontory Road, about 17 miles north of Shelton, WA. This area of Mason County is known as Harstine Point and is a rural community located about 2 miles north of Jarrell Cove State Park.
Deputies from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office along with Fire Fighters from Central Mason Fire District and Mason County Fire District #4 responded. A rope rescue team was assembled and the dog named “Tundra” was rescued, lowered 100 feet to the beach below and returned to his owner.
