Cosmo Specialty Fibers Says They’re Resolving “The Odor Issue”

COSMOPOLIS, Wash. – That old familiar smell – it’s actually an annual smell, Robert Buchan at Cosmo Specialty Fibers tells KBKW they’ve received a few calls since the strong smell of sulfur, or h2s gas returned to the harbor earlier this week.
The mill has been shut down for annual maintenance, as part of that, two of the mill’s settling ponds have been drained uncovering the solid matter that Buchan said “gives off a very strong odor.” This annual maintenance is part of their DOE permit requirements and once the water cover restored, Buchan said it will reduce odors from the mill throughout the rest of the year.
The maintenance outage is almost complete, and the mill should be running again soon.
