Grays Harbor Community Foundation Grants Announced

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation announced today the selection of the 2013-2014 Scholarship winners.  This year the Community Foundation received 425 applications and awarded 256 scholarships and renewals totaling $380,000.

All scholarship winners, their families, school principals, counselors, and donors are invited to an Awards Breakfast at the Aberdeen Elks, Wednesday, May 29th at 8:00 a.m.  A continental breakfast will be served and the scholarship recipients, donors, and Board members are encouraged to meet each other. The students will receive certificates of award during a brief ceremony.

Cassie Lentz, Program Officer, says:  “This year was the most competitive we have ever had. We had so many wonderful and qualified candidates, but a limited number of awards to give.  We also were excited to be able to offer 5 new Scholarships in 2013 that were not available in 2012: the Miles Zepp Memorial Scholarship, Stanley and Elizabeth Oskamp Scholarship, The Wes Berglund Memorial Scholarship, the Westby Family Scholarship and the L. George Pauze Memorial Scholarship. Our community has been extremely generous and it is because of them that our Scholarship program has continued to address the need of funding a quality education for those in our community.”

Rich Vroman, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee said, “We are proud of the growth our donors have allowed us to experience. We take pride in the fact that our recipients are from all areas of Grays Harbor and Pacific County, and that we support whatever it is that they want to do. There are a variety of reasons students are seeking scholarships and we are fortunate enough to be able to offer some financial support to make their dreams come true.”

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit with a mission:  “To improve the quality of life in the communities throughout Grays Harbor County.”  This is accomplished by many projects and processes, and by working through or supporting other non-profit organizations.
