Ocean Park Man Arrested After Brief Standoff Tuesday

OCEAN PARK, Wash. – A Pacific County resident was arrested for assaulting an officer after a brief standoff in Ocean Park Tuesday afternoon. Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Matlock with the Pacific County Sheriff’s Department tells us one of their deputies was assisting a mental health counselor on a home visit, when the subject became agitated and the assault occurred. The deputy’s taser, and capstan did not subdue the 40 year old man and after wrestling on the ground briefly, he ran back inside his home.
After about 30 minutes of communicating via text messaging, Matlock said negotiators talked him out of the home in the 2000 block of  224th Place, “Obviously when a person goes back into the house, you don’t know what that person is planning to do. So we were very fortunate and grateful that this persona actually came out.”
The man was arrested on assault charges and booked into the pacific county jail, the deputy sustained minor injuries.
