Strong Storm Prompts Special Weather Statement for Coastal Washington

UPDATED: Wind Advisory, and High Surf Advisory, in Effect for Portions of Grays Harbor County

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A storm moving into Washington on the last day of winter will usher in spring with rain, wind and heavy mountain snow. Forecasters say precipitation will move into Washington this afternoon and continue through tomorrow night with strong winds. A winter storm warning is posted for the Olympics and central and north Cascades where 2 to 3 feet of new snow are possible. Eastern Washington is in for the same mix of rain, wind and mountain snow.

The National Weather Service has issued this Special Weather Statement this morning. A weather system will develop off the coast Tuesday night and impact the area through Wednesday. South – Southwest winds will increase to 15-30 mph and gust to 45mph. Coastal areas could see over 2″ of rain while the interior locations could get 1-2″. High Surf Conditions will build with waves reaching 15-20 feet by Wednesday night.
