Grays Harbor Airport Makes International “Top 18” List

Copalis, WA – Copalis State Airport in Grays Harbor has been named one of 18 of the world’s most unique airports by online travel site The small rural airport is listed among Denver and, Hong Kong International airports, and the world’s highest airport at 14,000 feet above sea level in Tibet.
Copalis State AirportThe Singapore-based website explains the airport, North of Griffiths-Priday Ocean State Park, gets submerged every time the tide rolls in. While there are reflective markers to help with landing, pilots are also advised to aim for the dark, wet sand, which is more stable to land on than light-colored, soft sand. Pilots should also park their aircraft above the high tide mark to ensure that their planes don’t get taken out to sea.
The Copalis State Airport is off of State Route 109, between Copalis Beach and Pacific Beach.
