Aberdeen Hosts SkillsUSA Olympic Region Competitions

ABERDEEN, Wash. – The 2013 SkillsUSA Olympic Region skills competitions for Audio Production, Construction Wiring, HVAC/R and Major Appliance, was held at Aberdeen High School this past weekend. The big winner of the day was Aberdeen’s Kellen Schroeder, who took fist in both of the HVAC/R and the Major Appliance competitions, as well as taking third in the Audio Production competition, along with team mate Dakota Mullikin.

Aberdeen went on to sweep the hotly contested Audio Production competition which featured last year’s national 7th place finisher, Selena Alvarado and 2011 national 8th place finisher, Jenna Prater. Jenna and her partner, Kristina Davis, won first place, just ahead of Selena and her team mate, Daniel Sipe.

Results in the HVAC/R and Major Appliance mirrored each other, as Aberdeen’s Tommy Ryan took second in both and Hoquiam’s Riley Talevich took third in both.

In the Construction Wiring competition, Hoquiam’s Riley Talevich received the second highest score of all time, in route to taking first place. Second place went to Sequim’s Randy Hogeboom, while third place went to Sequim’s Amanda Larson.

All contestants qualify for the state competition to be held in Renton this April.
