SHELTON, Wash. – Three people are in custody this morning in connection with the death of 30 year old Barbara Michelle Giles of Shelton. In custody on charges of Murder in the first degree and Conspiracy to Commit Murder are Anthony Raymond Miller, 37, Shelton; James R. Hartfield, 18, DesMoines, and a 16 year old juvenile female, from Olympia.
Barbara Michelle Giles was murdered during the early morning hours of November 21st. Giles was the mother of four children and at least some of those children were present at the time of the murder. Detectives say that child custody issues between Giles and Miller created an atmosphere of animosity between the two. As early as November 15, Miller and the 16 year old juvenile female began plotting the murder through coded text messages. Investigation by Sheriff’s Detectives, has confirmed that the text messages were coded and were messages plotting the murder. Detectives allege that Hartfield and the juvenile female went to the Giles residence on the morning of November 21, knocked on the door and when Giles opened the door, Hartfield forced his way into the residence shooting Giles multiple times. Detectives also allege that Miller provided money to Hartfield for the murder weapon prior to the murder. Mason County Detectives arrested the juvenile and Miller late yesterday afternoon. Des Moines Police Department arrested Hartfield in DesMoines. Olympia Police assisted Deputies in arresting the juvenile in Olympia.
All three suspects are being held without bail and are expected to make their first court appearance later today.
