Aberdeen, WA- The Aberdeen Police Department is currently investigating a recent trend in thefts relating to Honda brand vehicles. In the last 4 week period a total of 12 vehicle thefts have been reported with 7 of these vehicles being recovered (resulting in 4 arrests). Of the original 12 vehicles thefts, 8 involved Honda brand automobiles in the 1990-1996 model year range.
In contrast, the Aberdeen Police Department received a total of 94 vehicle theft reports for the 2011 calendar year with 9 of those vehicles being of the Honda brand. In the 2012 calendar year to date the Aberdeen Police Department has received a total of 86 vehicle theft reports, 18 of those vehicles are of the Honda brand. This shows an increase of Honda brand thefts from about 10% of the total vehicles stolen in 2011 to about 21% so far in 2012.
In many of the recent thefts the victims have reported that they were still in the possession of the keys belonging to their missing vehicles.
The Insurance Information Institute ranked the 1994 Honda Accord as the most stolen vehicle in the United States for the last 3 years running. The 1998 Honda Civic was reported in the #2 position in 2011.
