Tree Saves Grays Harbor Teens From Rolling Over Hillside

ABERDEEN, Wash. – One Tree on a hill saved three Grays Harbor teens yesterday after excessive speed resulted in a rollover accident on 7th avenue. Aberdeen Police Captain John Green tells us a officers found a 2000 Honda Civic on it’s side propped against the tree just before 3 yesterday afternoon. Aberdeen Traffic Officer Jeff Weiss investigated the one car collision in the 600 block of 7th Avenue, and determined that a 17 year old Cosmopolis male was driving the Honda with a 14 year old Grayland female and a 15 year old Aberdeen male in the back seat. The Honda is registered to a relative of the male passenger. Weiss determined that the vehicle was travelling too fast when it entered a 180 degree corner. The driver lost control of the car and it slid into the curb, flipped onto the passenger side, and came to rest against a large tree on the hillside next to the road.
Green said it was likely that if the car did not hit the tree, it would have continued to roll down the hill. Investigating officers believed that if that had occurred, they would be investigating a serious injury or death. No injuries were reported at the scene of this accident. The driver was arrested for reckless driving and transported to the Aberdeen Police Department where he was process and released.
Green said neither alcohol or drugs appear to have contributed to this incident, the investigation is continuing.
