County Commissioners Meeting Called to Continue Budget Talks

MONTESANO, Wash. – The County Commissioners today have called off their regular meeting to continue their special meeting on the budget. One group that would like to talk with Commissioners about proposed cuts to the county Sheriff’s Department is Stand With Our Resident Deputies, a group that started to save the resident deputy program on the North Beach, but has since expanded to Save The Sheriff’s Budget. Sara Owen with SWORD tells us the commissioners are asking the sheriff’s department for additional cuts “the resident deputy program would go away, but the bigger issue is that approximately 7 positions will go away, there’s really no more programs to cut.” Owen said further cuts could result in a big drop in coverage and services to rural areas of the county.
