State Department Begins Annual Eradication Campaign on Noxious Weed

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The State Department of Agriculture will begin their annual campaign against a noxious weed in Grays Harbor County, Spartina or cordgrass is an aggressive weed that disrupts ecosystems of native saltwater estuaries. Over the past eight years the efforts have reduced a statewide infestation from 9000 acres to an estimated 12 acres this year. Survey and eradication efforts will take place this year in Grays Harbor, Willapa Bay, Hood Canal, Puget Sound, both sides of the Olympic Peninsula, and the mouth of the Columbia River.
